Many individuals today have the mentality that they will just keep getting new phones as new models become available. Of course, this does have a few benefits. However, as most individuals who are environmentally conscious and who do not want to waste their money know, this may not be the wisest idea. Here are a couple of things that you can do with old cell phones.
One idea is to re-purpose the old cell phone. You may be able to modify it or to use it in a project. You do not necessarily have to just toss it in the garbage can or leave it in a drawer forever. If you are creative, it can be re-purposed for a variety of things. For example, depending on the memory of the phone, you may be able to use it solely for storing music and using it while you go out for a jog or when you go to the gym.
Another option is to use it as an emergency phone. Many individuals have emergency kits that they keep in their home. If there is a flood, earthquake, or another emergency, they grab their pack and go. Old cell phones are great to have in a bag like this. Of course, you need to be diligent in making sure that the phone will be charged and will have emergency service. It can also be passed on to a younger individual or someone else who can use it as an emergency phone.
Depending on the value of the phone or the issues it is experiencing, you may be able to sell it. If it needs some replacement parts, like from silicon wafer suppliers for example, you can take a bit of time to do some research on the parts that need to be replaced and purchase them online. If you are good at fixing things, you may find that you have a new hobby or a new skill fixing cell phones and then selling them. You may not make a ton of cash, but with just a bit of effort, you can make a few bucks off of something that you were going to throw away anyways.
